According to the information, the length of this railway line is only 300 meters. You can comfortably cover this distance on foot in about 2 minutes. Actually, no permanent passenger train runs on this railway track. It has been designed only for goods trains. There is only one railway station in this country, whose name is Città Vaticana. According to the information, this railway line was started in 1934. 

Let us tell you that this railway line present in Vatican City connects to Roma San Pietro railway station of Italy after 300 meters. However, for the first time in the year 2015, a passenger train started running from Città Vaticano railway station. This train used to go to Castle Gandolfo in Italy and ran only on Saturdays. But mostly only cargo trains run on this track.

How did the train start?

According to the information, in the 19th century, the Pope ruled states were provided with railways. There was a plan to add. But Pope Gregory XVI had banned it. He believed that the iron road was the road to hell. But after his death in 1846, his successor Pope Pius IX started the construction of a railway line, but before it could be completed the area was captured by the forces of the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1860. Then, almost 70 years later, the construction of a railway station in Vatican City and its connection to Italian rail lines was guaranteed by the Lateran Treaty of 11 February 1929.

When did the first train reach Vatican City?

The track was ready 3 years after the treaty connecting the railway lines of Italy and Vatican City. After this, in March 1932, the first locomotive engined train entered Vatican City. However the station was officially opened on 2 October 1934. The station building was constructed between 1929 and 1933, which was made of white marble at that time. One part of the station building is used as a passenger station and goods office, while the other part now houses the Vatican Numismatics and Philatelic Museum.
